GAV Glimåkra AB, formerly AB Gunnar Anderssons Vävskedsfabrik, in Oxberg was already started in 1926 with weaving spoons as the first product. Over the years, the manufacturing program has expanded to include, in addition to looms, also looms with all accessories.
In everything we do, we try to take the environment into account in the best possible way. The very fact that our products mainly consist of the natural raw material wood means that our operations have very little impact on nature.
In everything we do we try to take the environment into account in the best possible way. The very fact that our products mainly consist of the natural raw material wood means that our operations have very little impact on nature. We use wood from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified forest, i.e. forest whose owner allocates a certain part of the forest to natural biotopes. Other raw materials also have a natural origin. So is e.g. the binder in our weaving spoons is still pitch, it has also proven to be the best and most durable material. The paints and varnishes we use are also environmentally friendly.
The electrical energy we use is produced in one of the many hydroelectric plants we have in Dalarna and the heating of the factory is done with our own waste wood and waste wood that we buy from others. The wood is burned in our own boiler.
Hand weaving is an ancient craft which gives people peace and satisfaction at the same time as it creates beautiful things in a good and lasting way for nature. A Glimåkra loom is made to last a long time and both manufacturing and use are in good harmony with the environment and nature.
Last but not least Our factory is located in a beautiful but sparsely populated area. By remaining and working in Oxberg and offering job opportunities there, Glimåkra contributes to keeping the area alive, which is also part of our environmental work.
